Ad details

Copper oxide is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula CuO. It is a black copper oxide, slightly amphoteric and slightly hygroscopic. It is insoluble in water, easily soluble in acid, stable to heat, and decomposes into oxygen at high temperature. It can be reduced to metallic copper by passing hydrogen or carbon monoxide at high temperature. When copper oxide is heated in air, it releases oxygen at about 1050°C and is reduced to cuprous oxide. If it is in a hydrogen or carbon monoxide flow, it can be easily reduced to metallic copper even below 250°C. Although copper oxide is insoluble in water, it can be dissolved in an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide.
